Dwight Oarr and Friends

Dwight Oarr is organist at Pine Shores Presbyterian Church and also a volunteer curator of the Music Archives at Selby Library. He is a graduate of Trinity College, Hartford and holds the Master of Music Degree in piano and organ from Yale University. He served for 16 years on the faculty of Wells College in Aurora, NY, and then became Director of Music at New Canaan Congregational Church (Connecticut) and organist at Temple Beth El in Stamford, CT. He was an audition accompanist for the Metropolitan and New York City opera companies and has appeared as organ recitalist at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, the National Cathedral in Washington, D. C. and Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France.

Todd Craven is Principal Trumpet of the Florida West Coast Symphony and the Florida Brass Quintet. He has been a prizewinner in the Ellsworth Smith International Trumpet competition, first prize winner of the International Trumpet Guild solo competition and a finalist in the Young Center Artists Audition in New York. Todd received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Michigan and a Masters from Indiana University.

Laurie Penpraze is a member of the Florida West Coast Symphony and was formally Assistant Professor of Trombone at Miami University (OH); a Fulbright Scholar and Visiting Professor at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in Vilnius, Lithuania. She received her Bachelor of Music, Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts Degrees from the University of Michigan. Laurie performs frequently as a soloist and chamber musician in this country and abroad.

The Raleigh Ringers

The Raleigh Ringers is an internationally acclaimed, advanced community handbell choir based in Raleigh, North Carolina. Founded in 1990, The Raleigh Ringers has been dazzling audiences with unique interpretations of sacred and popular music, including famous rock 'n' roll tunes arranged just for handbells.

Under the direction of David M. Harris, The Raleigh Ringers has performed in 34 states and in several cities in France during its tours. They perform on the world's most extensive collection of handbells and bell-like instruments owned by a single performing group. The current grand total is 29½ octaves composed of 361 individual pieces of equipment. The group has made a significant impact on the world's handbell music repertoire by commissioning more than 80 compositions and arrangements for handbells.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 11, 2008 – 7:00 P.M.
The Brass Roots Trio

Transcending traditional musical boundaries and displaying incomparable virtuosity with its original blend of classical masterpieces, operatic selections and jazz numbers, the critically acclaimed Brass Roots Trio has created a “New Sound in Chamber Music.”

Classical by intent and eclectic by content, their unique program will take the audience down a musical journey from baroque to opera to jazz. The threesome offers a mix that includes Gershwin, Brubeck, Verdi and Bizet, along with Americana spirituals and gospel melodies.

Comprised of pianist Rosetta Senkus Bacon, trumpeter and flugelhorn player Travis Heath, and tenor and horn player Douglas Lundeen, the Brass Roots Trio has demonstrated their prodigious talents across the country and around the world. Their virtuoso technique, musical finesse and charisma give their performances an exuberance rarely seen on the classical stage, and their rapport with their listeners allows them to establish an immediate connection to their audiences.

The Jensen Family Players

The Jensen Family Players consists of parents Dale and Barbara, son Keith and younger daughter, Laura.

Dale was Supervisor of Music in the Manatee County School system for 21 years, officially retiring in 1998. He conducted the Sarasota Pops Orchestra, sings with The Florida Voices, and plays flute in I Solisti d’Oneco.

Barbara was Librarian at Abel Elementary School until her retirement in 2000. She continues as Organist-Choirmaster at St. George’s Episcopal Church, plays viola with the Pops Orchestra and accompanies The Florida Voices.

Keith is a radiology technician at the Intercoastal Medical Group by day and plays in both the Florida West Coast Symphony and the Pops Orchestra where he is the principal cello. He and his wife have three children, Joshua, Anikka, and Jaedon.

Laura is Principal Second Violin with the Florida West Coast Symphony and the Concertmaster of the Pops Orchestra. She also plays viola. Laura and her husband Richard Jennings have two children, Hannah and Matthew.

The Concert Handbell Ringers of the Wheeler School

 

Despite their formal name, The Concert Ringers are an energetic and fun-loving ensemble of 12 auditioned high school handbell ringers who are in their 28th season of performing for schools, churches and civic organizations.  Among their notable appearances, the Ringers have presented opening concerts at national and regional handbell festivals and their annual tours have taken them throughout the United States and Canada.

In addition to their performance credits are three appearances with the Rhode Island Philharmonic, and three CD's: a recently re-released recording with the Empire Brass,  "Joy To The World", Angel CD 7 49097 2; "Inside Fessiwig's" with folk artist Ed Sweeney, Kicking Mule Record KMC 187.  Their newest CD, "RingTONES", features the Concert Ringers and the Honors Quartet  presenting their holiday favorites.

The ringers rehearse daily to prepare for more than 15 concerts each year, and perform on a six octave set of Malmark Handbells.

Director, Daniel Moore, is a member of the music faculty at Wheeler and a frequent clinician at local, regional and national handbell events.  Mr. Moore is immediate past chair of the AGEHR's Certification Committee, and his textbook/resource  "Ringing RIGHT! From the Beginning" is published by AGEHR.
